This is the spirit of Santiago Ruiz that, thanks to the great duo formed by our winemaker Luisa Freire and Rosa Ruiz – daughter of our winery’s founder – is maintained in each and every one of the bottles of the 2017 vintage.
Santiago Ruiz is the result of a combination of native grape varieties from the O Rosal subzone: Albariño, Loureiro, Treixadura, Godello and Caiño Blanco, which Santiago Ruiz defended with vehemence, convinced that this blend would result in an extraordinary and very complex wine.
The harvest started in our vineyard in Tomiño on the 23rd August with the Albariño variety. The grapes are picked by hand and by variety; the grapes are placed in 20kg crates. Then, immediately upon their arrival at the winery, the grapes are selected on sorting tables. And after being fermented separately, lees ageing takes place, before the final blending, which, as in every year, seeks to maintain the original and unique essence of Santiago Ruiz.
The unique character of Santiago Ruiz’s sensory profile is maintained in this new vintage, characterised by a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. It is intense, fresh and complex on the nose, combining fruity aromas – apple, pear, apricot – with touches of grass and hay. Over the coming months, Santiago Ruiz 2017 will gain in aromas and flavours and will show a riper, more mature profile, while retaining an excellent level of freshness.
With each sip of Santiago Ruiz we remember the visionary spirit of our founder; it is a point of pride for all of us to continue to offer this character, year after year, under the guidance of Rosa Ruiz, guarantor of her family’s unrivalled viticultural heritage.
