With a history that goes back to 1860, Santiago Ruiz is considered one of the pioneering wineries in the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin, and its founder, Santiago Ruiz, is recognised as "the father of Albariño." Rosa Ruiz represents the continuation of her father's creative spirit, with her on-going vindication of the personality of the Rías Baixas.
Its iconic label tells a family story from over half a century ago. It was created by Isabel Ruiz, one of the family’s elder daughters. She drew a map so that guests could find their way to the winery in San Miguel de Tabagón, where her wedding took place. Santiago Ruiz decided to add this map to the packaging of his wine, where it has remained to this day.
TASTING NOTE:
Bright with greenish tones. Aromatically, it is very intense, elegant, and clean, displaying this wine's typical complexity. Notes of stewed fruit, apple, orange peel and floral aromas, as well as the herbal hints typical of the Loureira grape variety (bay leaf, lemon verbena) and aniseed notes (fennel, mint) emerge, accompanied by a subtle mineral undertone.
On the palate, the complexity observed on the nose appears once again, with flavours of fruit, resinous notes, minerals, and citrus. Well-structured, with great body and balance, it is complex with a luscious mouth feel and very pleasant freshness.
It pairs very well with food, not only with typical Galician dishes such as fish or seafood, but also with Asian cuisine, rice dishes, and light desserts. The recommended serving temperature is between 10 and 11ºC.
RRP: 14,95€.

Rosa Ruiz 2022 is the ninth vintage of this very special wine, a limited edition Albariño of which 10,200 bottles are made in homage to the winery's longstanding tradition, and to the daughter of the founder, after whom the wine is named. In 2014, for the first time in its history, the winery made this single varietal wine as a complement to its emblematic Santiago Ruiz brand. It serves to reflect the perfect balance between the tradition of this winery that was a pioneer in the history of the Rías Baixas and its desire to innovate. In the words of Rosa Ruiz herself, the wine "speaks of who we are, of our personality." A 100% Albariño from old vines of around 25-40 years of age, grown on the typical pergola system of the O Rosal subzone and with very low yields.
As in the case of Santiago Ruiz, the label of Rosa Ruiz is loaded with significance and sentiment, expressing the union between father and daughter. It was inspired by a photo taken of them in 1993 at the winery where they shared so many moments together. With Rosa Ruiz's favourite colour, red, taking centre stage, it serves as an invitation to step through the winery door and enjoy its wines.
VINTAGE INFORMATION: The Rías Baixas regulatory council classified the 2022 vintage as very good. A very dry winter gave way to a spring and summer that were drier and hotter than in previous years. These climatic conditions contributed to uniform bud break and flowering, followed by a good level of ripening.
TASTING NOTE:
Bright lemon yellow with a golden rim. It is very elegant on the nose, with intense aromas of white fruit such as pear, apple, and nectarine, enveloped in floral notes.
It is full-bodied and well balanced in the mouth. Fruits and, white flowers in particular, reappear on the back palate. It is very long on the finish, with a delicious aftertaste.
This wine pairs not only with fish and seafood but also makes an excellent accompaniment to pâtés, poultry and rice dishes. It even partners well with desserts based on chocolate and tropical fruit. The recommended serving temperature is between 10 and 11ºC.
